Delivering social value in 2025

The NRL Group’s 2025 social value report has been released, reflecting on progress made throughout last year to drive meaningful change for our communities, people and planet.

The report explores the various ways colleagues within our NDT business and the wider NRL Group have been working together across social value activities. As well as the steps we are taking as a business to invest in initiatives where they are needed most, including mental health and wellbeing.

Championing the Armed Forces

As a signatory of the Armed Forces Covenant and recipient of the Employer Recognition Scheme Silver award, we’re advocates of our Armed Forces and recognise the skills and expertise they gain during their time serving our nation. As a Group, we’re committed to supporting those military personnel preparing to leave the forces to find rewarding work and are proud of the volunteering work our support office teams do to support the Poppy Appeal selling poppies and merchandise across the fortnight-long campaign each year.

Developing a female mentor programme in Cumbria

We’re lucky to share our office in Egremont with the NRL Group’s local recruitment branch, who connect local residents with job opportunities across the region’s energy infrastructure. We share the same mission to drive diversity and inclusion across key industry sectors in Cumbria, so were delighted to see them launch a new female mentor programme. The first of its kind in Cumbria, the varied mix of mentors and mentees who have come together for the first cohort in 2025 has been impressive to see. It’s also great to hear participants are gaining real value from the mentor partnerships they have formed.

Championing mental health awareness

Mental health should no longer be a topic that’s seen as a taboo, and as a business we need to ensure we’re doing everything we can to offer wellbeing support to colleagues working within our businesses. We have developed a network of trained Mental Health First Aiders who volunteer their time to support others, and it’s an important service that they deliver to our teams. We extend this commitment to tackling mental health issues through our continued company support of the Lighthouse construction industry charity, that provides invaluable 24/7 support to our contracting teams.

Offsetting our carbon emissions

Each year we’re committed to understanding our carbon footprint, both within our NDT operations and the wider NRL Group – before identifying ways we can drive these down. Due to the nature of our operations, we’re not able to immediate eliminate all carbon emissions, so the work we do to offset this footprint is vital. We work with One Carbon World to invest carbon credits in climate change projects across the globe, giving us the opportunity to exchange these emissions by investing in meaningful initiatives. To offset 2024 emissions this involved supporting an afforestation project in Uruguay that will create new wildlife habitats and improve biodiversity – whilst ensuring we continue to maintain the Carbon Neutral International Standard.

Supporting local charities

Through the NRL Group’s company match funding programme, colleagues can claim additional donations to support their charity activities. Through the programme in 2025 an impressive £21,167 in additional donations were made by the NRL Group including support for personal fitness challenges, volunteering shifts and group fundraising challenges. Through the initiative that started in 2024 we’ve supported 53 charities through 68 donations.

In 1983 the NRL Group was first established to deliver the Non-Destructive Testing services we still provide to clients today. Over the years we’re proud to see the continued expansion of the Group into Recruitment, Workforce, Rail and Language solutions – taking us from an UK business to a global operator within our specialities.
